Goal
You should have all now seen the most recent DVSA Special Notice, requiring MOT testers to start recording annual training in their MOT Testing Service (MTS) accounts. This poses a new challenge for testers, Site Managers, and AEDMs.

Fully automated, DVSA-compliant training logs are created & maintained for all MOT testers using MOT Juice – MOT testers have always just needed to complete their training, and we’ve taken care of the rest. However, this new DVSA mandate means testers must now manually copy their training data into the MTS, which will be needlessly time-consuming for them, and very difficult to monitor from an AEDM perspective, presenting a new compliance risk.

Many MOT Juice users as well as individuals who are not subscribed with MOT Juice have inquired with us about automating this task, so data could be transferred across automatically into testers’ MTS accounts, following their completion of each training session.

MOT Juice will always do everything possible to ease the burden of regulatory pressures for all in the industry. Therefore, we are proposing that the DVSA permit API access between our system (as well as other training providers) and the MTS, which will enable us to automate the whole process for you.

The DVSA already allow exam providers to automate exam result submissions, so we’re hopeful that they will give this proposal some serious thought – but the likelihood of it being authorised will be much higher if we can make them aware of your support.

Therefore, we have drafted the attached letter to the DVSA, with the aim of getting as many signatories as possible from across the industry. If you are happy to be listed as a signatory, please complete the form on this web page.

What is an API and how will it benefit me?
An API is like a waiter in a restaurant. You tell the waiter what you want, and they communicate that to the kitchen. The kitchen then prepares your order and gives it back to the waiter, who brings it to you. In the same way, an API helps different software programs talk to each other by taking requests and providing responses automatically for you, usually in the blink of an eye.

In the case of annual training, an API will allow you to take your training with a provider who can then automatically upload this to your DVSA MTS profile for you, taking the burden of recording it away from you.
How many times can I sign this letter?
We only count your signature once. If you do submit multiple e-signatures, it will still only be counted once. Our systems automatically verify each signature and any duplicates will not be included on the final letter, nor will it affect the official count at the top of this page.
